front door window replacement on a Mazda mpv

The front right window of our 2003 MPV shattered. I decided to replace it with used glass for $35 instead of the $190 price that the local window shops where charging. Car-part.com is a good place to look for salvaged parts. Just be sure to filter for parts closest to you.
I never did figure out exactly why the window broke.
Pry off this plastic piece with a small screw driver. Note the two bolts holding on the mirror.

Remove the screw from the handle.

Remove the door light cover and one screw inside.
If you leave the door open  long enough then the  light will turn off and not burn you .

Remove the screw from the arm rest. Mine was hiding under this matt.
I will add pictures of the 2 or 3 plastic screws along the back of the door. After they are out you can start gently removing the door cover. There are several plastic grommets. Turn the door latch side ways and push it through it's hole.
Remove the plug for the window controls, and the wire for the door light. It is hot if it has been on. I removed the bulb after it melted a hole in the weather barrier plastic.

Here is a closeup of the window switch. I had to remove it from the door panel so I could roll the window down.
Fold back the plastic weather barrier and roll the window down until you can access both screws for the glass.

Here is the plastic piece that goes through the glass. My new glass came with some already attached, but I would save them until you get your new glass.

I did not take any pictures of the installation of the glass. There are some YouTube videos showing how to install window glass. Basically you angle the front of the glass down about 45 degrees, and put it slowly down inside the door until the back of the glass can fit inside the track. Then rotate it back into position. Be ready to grab the glass from the bottom and guide it into place. I did this by myself, but a second person could be useful. While you have the door panel off it would be a good time to apply some white lithium grease to the window regulator cable and other moving parts.
